Book club meets performance in a two-part discussion series with People’s Light.
Unlike a novel or other prose, a script is only the skeleton of a performance, much as a blueprint is only the beginning of a finished home. In this series you are invited to read from the blueprint and imagine all the possibilities. Facilitated by artistic staff from People’s Light, the group will read from the script of The Catastrophist and discuss possible interpretations for performance. Participants will screen the filmed play on their own schedule, then reconvene in a second session to discuss. Playwright Lauren Gunderson is among the most produced playwrights in the country, and a writer worth knowing. This newest one-person play is told through the eyes of a leading virologist; it is a thoughtful, soulful, and timely play that asks how we prepare for the unthinkable.
This discussion series has two sessions + online streaming:
Session 1: May 12, 6:30-7:30pm on Zoom
Online streaming of The Catastrophist on participants’ own schedules.
Session 2: May 26, 6:30-7:30pm on Zoom
Because these sessions are discussion-based, capacity is limited.
Register here by May 5
Please note, this discussion series is free, but participants will need to purchase streaming access to The Catastrophist for $25. Brief instructions and the reading excerpt of the script will be sent within 1 week of sign-up and no later than May 6.
