March 3rd at People’s Light will be a celebration of all things water, pools, and swimming! Starting at 1:00 PM, Company member and Greater Philadelphia Area legend Tom Teti will be performing a pre-show Scoop: Tales with Tom, an autobiographical piece focusing on Tom’s experience growing up in segregated Yeadon, Pennsylvania. At 1:30 PM, members of America’s oldest and most prominent Black-owned swim club, the Nile Swim Club, will be on-campus promoting their new book: The Nile Swim Club of Yeadon, A History. After the performance, please join members of the Nile, Dr. Thames-Taylor, and former swimmer Vicki L. Baker in the next installment of our Intersecting Realities panel series: The Black Struggle for the Joy of Water.

People’s Light is thrilled to host Victoria Prizzia, the project founder of POOL: A Social History of Segregation and the individual responsible for the exhibit’s creative visioning, direction, and production, for a conversation with POOL participants Dr. Angela Beale-Tawfeeq, a renowned academic and advocate of health and wellness, and American Swimming Coaches Association Hall of Famer and PDR Swim Team founder, swim coach Jim Ellis.

Join PMC and People's Light for a special double feature to learn about our courts and racial justice. The night kicks off with a Navigating and Understanding PA Court workshop, which illuminates the organization and procedures of the Pennsylvania Judicial System with the goal of bringing Pennsylvanian's awareness of and confidence in their courts. We will discuss the different subject matters of each court, knowing your way around the courtroom, how judges are selected, and how you can be a more knowledgeable citizen. Following the workshop, attendees can make their way over to the theater for a discounted viewing of the ripple, the wave that carried me home beginning at 7pm.
