(He/him) Previous People's Light credits: Alice in Wonderland: A Musical Panto, Sleeping Beauty: A Musical Panto, Shakespeare in Love (as composer/lyricist) and Cinderella: A Musical Panto, Arthur and the Red Dragon: A Musical Panto (as actor). Alex Bechtel is a composer, lyricist, writer, actor, sound designer, and multi-instrumentalist. He is dedicated to the creation of new works of music, theatre, and musical theatre. Recent work includes: Music & Lyrics for Lightning Rod Special’s The Appointment (“Best of 2019” - The New York Times, Vulture, TimeOut NY, “Best of 2023” - The New Yorker), Arden Theatre Company’s The Light Princess, Little Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He has composed eight seasons of new music for Shakespeare at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. He has received Barrymore Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Ensemble of a Musical, and two for Outstanding Original Music. In 2015, he was awarded an Independence Fellowship in the Arts to engage in a one-on-one creative intensive with Kentucky-based New Music composer Rachel Grimes on new approaches to the use of music in theatre. He is the creator/composer of The West, Philadelphia Nocturne, and Cheer Up, Dostoevsky. His new musical Penelope, a collaboration with performer Grace McLean and director Eva Steinmetz, has received productions at Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival and Signature Theatre in DC, and will come to the Philadelphia region this May/June in a co-production between Theatre Horizon and Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. Bill Fennelly — Director
(He/they) People's Light Company Artist. Bill was the director of the new musical pantos Little Red Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland, and the 2023 Panto Brunch. His other work has been seen on Broadway, Off Broadway, regionally, and on television. Recently he directed Michael Smerconish's one man show Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Talking broadcast internationally on CNN. Bill was the original Assistant Director on the creation of the TONY Award winning Jersey Boys, the Resident Director for the Broadway First National Tour of Disney’s award-winning The Lion King, the Associate Director for the Broadway musical The Gershwins' Fascinating Rhythm, the Assistant Director to Sir Alan Ayckbourn and Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber on the U.S. premiere of their musical By Jeeves. Bill spent four seasons as a staff director with New York City Opera at Lincoln Center where he worked on over thirteen new productions including the Glimmerglass World Premiere, the NYC Premiere and the EMMY nominated PBS Great Performances Telecast of Central Park. Additionally, Bill directed the world premiere and Off-Broadway production of Frankenstein the musical. He has directed projects in NYC at The Roundabout, Playwrights Horizons, Lincoln Center and The Acting Company. Regionally his directing has been seen at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Dallas Theatre Center, Syracuse Stage, Portland Center Stage, Hartford Stage Company, Goodspeed Opera House, Maltz Jupiter Theatre, TheatreWorks in Hartford, Actors Express, Arizona Theatre Company, Glimmerglass Opera, Chicago Opera Theatre and TheatreWorks in Palo Alto. Bill’s work has been awarded with the Phil Killian Directing Fellowship at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, a California K.P.B.S. Patte Award, The San Diego Playbill Award, the Moss Hart Award by the New England Theatre Conference, a Bay Area Critics Award nomination for Best Director of a musical and the Dallas Column Award for Outstanding Direction of a Musical for the world premiere and subsequent production of the new musical Fly By Night, the New York S.A.L.T. Award for Director of the Year and Production of the Year for his productions of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Hairspray at Syracuse Stage; and Barrymore nominations for Herringbone at Flashpoint Theatre and Alice in Wonderland at People’s Light, and the Philadelphia premiere of Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song at 1812 Productions. Bill served as Producing Artistic Director at Actor's Express in Atlanta Georgia, Associate Producing Artistic Director of the TONY honored The Acting Company in NYC, and as an Assistant Artistic Director at Cirque du Soleil. Bill earned a B.M. in Music Theatre Performance, Directing and Dramatic Writing from the Hartt School at The University of Hartford and his M.F.A. in directing from University of California San Diego. Bill is an Associate Professor of Theatre at Drexel University and is a designated Linklater teacher.
Chris Haig — Scenic Designer
(He/Him) People’s Light: Alice in Wonderland. A proud University of the Arts alum and former professor, Chris has designed sets and props throughout Philadelphia for over 20 years earning four Barrymore nominations for Best Scenic Design (Torch Song at 1812 Productions, Man of La Mancha at Delaware Theatre Company, Alice in Wonderland at People’s Light and Time Is On Our Side at Simpatico Theatre). Mike Inwood — Lighting Designer
(He/him) Mike is an Emmy Award-winning artist working across many different genres of lighting design. Past People's Light productions include Alice in Wonderland (Barrymore Nominee, best Lighting Design for a Musical), Little Red Robin Hood, and Cinderella. In Philadelphia, Mike's work has been seen at The Arden, PTC, Theatre Exile, Theatre Horizon, The Lantern, 1812 Productions, and Opera Philadelphia. Mike also works as a part of the Bearded Ladies Cabaret, most recently designing the lighting for their Late Night Snacks festival. In New York, Mike’s designs have been seen on stage at Playwrights Horizons, Ars Nova, Signature Theatre, Second Stage, BAM, and The Guggenheim Museum. Melanie Cotton — Choreographer
(She/her) People's Light: Alice in Wonderland. Melanie is a proud Philly native who brings her vibrant creativity to the Greater Philadelphia area as a choreographer, director, dancer, actor, and teaching artist. With a knack for blending styles, she infuses her work with elements of clown, musical theater, improvisation, hip-hop, and street dance. Her choreography has been featured in stage productions like The Legend of Georgia McBride (Arden Theatre), This Is The Week That Is (1812 Productions), The Appointment (Lighting Rod Special), TJ Loves Sally 4Ever (Theater Horizon), among others! On the performance side, you might have caught her in In The Heights at Walnut Street Theatre, It’s My Party with 1812 Productions, The Swamp is On (Pig Iron), or Allan Kaprow’s reinvented Chicken (1962) by Alex Da Corte. Most recently, she appeared in The Play That Goes Wrong (1812 Productions) and directed This Is The Week That Is: Election Special (1812 Productions). Melanie is thrilled to return to People’s Light for her second panto, ready to bring even more magic to the stage!

(She/her) People's Light Company Artist since 1988. Sooz lives for panto! She’s been a part of ALL of them since 2004! That’s 20 years of panto, friends! Other PL credits include Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Legacy of Light, Master Builder, End Days, Playhouse Creatures, Book of Days, Splittin’ the Raft, Skin of our Teeth, My Mother Said I Never Should, among dozens of others. Past panto roles include multiple baddies (the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, Lady Nottingham in Little Red Robin Hood, and Specula the Evil Witch in Sleeping Beauty), and one goodie (Gus the Rat in Cinderella). Tom Teti — TikTok Croc
(He/him) Tom Teti has been a company artist since 1974, the beginning of People’s Light. There have been many productions in 50 years. Most recent credits include: Boca, and It’s Only a Play at Act 2 Playhouse, Christmas Carol and Alice in Wonderland at PL, and Tommy and Me at Uptown. He writes fiction and reads his writing in PL's "Tales with Tom" program, and has his own reading series called Fiction Live.
Rob Tucker — Mr. Darling / Harvey / Pirate / Ma Bell
(He/him) Rob is excited to be making his People's Light debut. He was most recently seen in the world premiere of Siluetas (Power Street Theatre). Tiara Whaley is excited to be back in Pantoland! Her favorite roles include Ti Moune in Once on This Island, Emmie Thibedeaux in Caroline or Change (Helen Hayes Outstanding Supporting Actress), Dorothy Gale in Wizard of Oz, and Heather Chandler in Heathers. King Clark is in 5th grade at Hillcrest Elementary. This past summer, he was a student with Summer Studios here at People's Light and is excited to be making his main stage debut. Enjoy the show!

Eliza is thrilled to be making her debut at People’s Light. She recently played Ngana in South Pacific with Maine State Music Theatre. Eliza is so thankful for the support of her teachers, friends, and family. Happy Holidays to all!
Alden Sheffield — Youth Cast
Alden is a ten-year-old 5th grader at St. Patrick School where he participates in advanced choir, altar serving, and honors math. He enjoys mountain bike racing, gymnastics, Legos, architecture, Minecraft, engineering, snow skiing, his two dogs (Hank and Bobby), and his two gerbils (Quest and Dewdrop). Alden participated in Theatre School at People’s Light, played Young Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Summer Studios, and has done print work for advertising and was featured in the New York Times. Johnny Sheffield — Youth Cast
People's Light debut. Johnny is a 9 year-old fourth grader at Saint Patrick School and in the advanced math class. She is a founding member of the St. Patrick Mountain Bike Club, plays Chester Valley baseball and CYO flag football. Johnny enjoys snow skiing, unicycling, po-go sticking, kayaking, swimming, and art. Professionally, she has appeared in print advertising and was featured in the New York Times. Johnny loves vacationing to Cape Cod. She has a bunny, Mr. Pistachio, whom she won at Miss Betty’s Day Camp.
