SummerBLAST 2022
What grows here?

Summer theatre-making with People's Light doesn't start with a chosen play — it begins with curiosity.

We want to know! Who are you? What do you care about? Who’s that over there? And what’s their story? What grows here? What dreams and traditions and ambitions and plans? Summer brings the chance to step into more than just a single role. It’s time to investigate the world with an artist’s power of communication and appetite for wonder.

During summer 2022, we are in residence at the Duportail House in Chesterbrook, just off 202. Learn more below!

Are you looking for options for Summer 2023? We will announce our next offerings in December 2022! Please email ArtsDiscovery@peopleslight.org to be added to our announcement list.

Ages 10-13: Roots

3 weeks: July 5–July 22
No session Monday, July 4

Dig deeper! Actors and artists ask questions to get inside every person’s personality, every relationship between people, and every decision someone makes. We follow cause and effect from feelings to actions, and from small actions to big stories. If you’re someone who knows there’s always more going on underneath the surface, this summer of investigating is for you.

Early Registration (by May 1): $900
Regular Registration: $975
Registration deadline: June 20

The enrollment period is closed, but late registration may be available. Please email ArtsDiscovery@PeoplesLight.org, or call 610-647-1900 ext. 187

Ages 7-9: Seeds

2 weeks: June 20–July 1

An artist’s “inspiration seeds” are everywhere. Imagine each day as a scavenger hunt searching for stories in new ways: in the people we observe, in objects, in nature around us. Once we uncover our stories we’ll apply all the actor’s tools of voice, movement, imagination and collaboration to bring those stories to life in solo exercises, small groups, and as a full ensemble.

Early Registration (by May 1): $600
Regular Registration: $650

REGISTRATION CLOSED

Please email ArtsDiscovery@peopleslight.org if you have an inquiry about this session.

Ages 14-18*: Branches

2 weeks: July 25–August 5

How far do we reach? Real people from around this region have struggles and victories every day. We’re collecting real-world characters, interviews, and other texts for teen artists to create a theatrical collage representing this unique moment through many points of view. Apply an actor’s care and skill to stepping into a stranger’s shoes, and use this summer to communicate with commitment, imagination, and personal truth.

*Participants age 13 may enroll with permission of the Director of Education.

Early Registration (by May 1): $600
Regular Registration: $650
Registration deadline: July 11

REGISTRATION CLOSED

Please email ArtsDiscovery@peopleslight.org if you have an inquiry about this session.

  • Our Summer Home: The Duportail House

Artistic curiosity invites us to step out of the familiar, and this summer we are thrilled to bring our theatre explorations to a new site!

People’s Light is honored to partner with the Duportail House, a local site steeped in the history of our region as well as educational activities and joyful gatherings in the present. On the National Register of Historic Places and nestled into the edge of Valley Forge National Historical Park, the Duportail House and Federal Barn will give our young theatre-makers uniquely inspiring indoor and outdoor spaces to stretch, imagine, and create.
