Students entering grades 5 through 8
July 15-August 2 (3 weeks)
Monday-Friday
9:00am-4:00pm
Final sharing Friday, August 2 at 3:00pm
Become a braver performer in a session that breaks down the essential ingredients of acting before putting them back together in a brand-new piece of theatre we create. Characters, settings, improvisation, movement, and dialogue: actors need it all. Every day we train our bodies and voices, but we also exercise imagination and spontaneity. Teaching artists lead a variety of exercises that develop focus, teamwork, and trust. Very quickly our summer ensemble knows how to work together, take risks, and experiment without a script.
These strengths are essential, because we use everyone’s ideas to collaborate and craft our play. We’ll flex our creative muscles as writers, world-builders, directors and choreographers until a new story unfolds. Then we’ll spend the second half of the program applying our performance skills to the original script we’ve created, preparing for a laboratory-style performance on the Steinbright stage.
Observe your world. Find a point of view. Put it onstage.
This session concludes with a culminating performance at 3pm on Friday, August 2.
