This series of single-day masterclasses is a chance for high school theatre-makers to try it all. Each class is led by a professional theatre artist, sharing a distinct area of expertise. Workshops take place at People's Light in Malvern, PA.
Saturday, November 8, 2:00–5:00pm
This dynamic session is back by popular demand! Ever wondered what the difference is between training for theatre versus film? Dive into the nuanced world of acting for the camera with renowned actress, screenwriter and filmmaker Kim Carson. As the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival Director of Education & Community Engagement, and a People’s Light regular (Pantos including Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella; Plays including The Master Builder and more!) Kim has a wealth of experience acting both onstage and in front of the camera. The shift from stage acting to screen acting is one that requires subtlety, flexibility, and the ability to take direction and adapt to an imagined environment or scene partner during filming. Kim will guide students through the stages of preparation for a film role, help them analyze sides from popular tv shows and films, and help them calibrate their vocal techniques, physicality and facial expressions to render simple, powerful, believable performances suitable for television and film.
