Malvern-based theatre company People’s Light invites audiences across the region to celebrate its 50th anniversary season. The theatre’s golden anniversary promises drama, music, magic, and more for audiences of all ages — a lineup fit for the occasion that blends cutting-edge theatre with iconic classics.

“A great party involves a vibrant community coming together to connect and feel our hearts expand,” said Zak Berkman, Producing Artistic Director at People’s Light. “Our 50th will be that kind of party, with lots of music, laughter, and stories that illuminate the distinctive hopes and dreams of human life. We are thrilled to celebrate five decades of People’s Light with a season that embraces our rich history as we reach new creative heights.”

The 24/25 Season kicked off in September with The Porch on Windy Hill, a new play with old music. This story of heritage and connection is told by a multitalented cast of Broadway actor-musicians, including authentic “old-time” and bluegrass tunes. For the holiday season, the musical panto (a beloved People’s Light tradition) returns with Peter Panto, a whimsical, joyous reinvention of the classic tale. Pantos invite the whole family to cheer the heroes, boo the villains, and sing along, with pop culture references and humor for all ages. Beginning in February, People’s Light stages Lorraine Hansberry’s classic, groundbreaking drama A Raisin in the Sun, helmed by Broadway director Steve H. Broadnax III. Next up in April, Noah Haidle’s poignant and humorous play, Birthday Candles, comes to Malvern fresh off its Broadway run and featuring a cast of company artists. The 50th Anniversary Season closes with a summer musical, the award-winning, witty and macabre cult classic Little Shop of Horrors.

Two additional plays joined the 50th Anniversary lineup, announced mid-October: Tommy and Me and Hershey Felder as Monsieur Chopin. Critically acclaimed fan favorites, these presented productions round out the 24/25 Season. Music and sports fans unite!

Alongside these core productions, special events keep the party going all year long, including 5 High Five-O benefit events celebrating different facets of the organization’s 50-year legacy in art, education, and community impact.
