Support Project Discovery's 20th AnniversaryPURCHASE A COMMEMORATIVE STARIn honor of the 20th Anniversary of Project Discovery, People's Light will be installing one-of-a-kind glass stars as a permanent constellation in our Main Stage lobby. These stars, as seen in our fall Project Discovery production of Theophilus North, have been created by internationally-known glass sculptor Hank Adams, director of Wheaton Arts. In Theophilus North, the title character speaks of his desire: "I want to be surrounded...by...a constellation. Of people. And I want to know that my star plays a part in the constellation of others. Then, what a deep satisfaction I will feel when each vacant place is filled." Since its inception in 1987, Project Discovery, People's Light & Theatre's arts education program, has been reaching over 30,000 students in our region each year. People's Light's partnership with high schools is the largest component of Project Discovery. It allows 21 high schools in Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties to bring students to People's Light twice a year. Free tickets are given to approximately 10,000 high school students each year. The program is open to all students--not just to arts students or to students in advanced academic tracks. Nancy Robinson is the English Department Chair at Downingtown Area High School, West Campus. Students from her high school have been attending shows at People's Light since the program began in 1987. Robinson says, "The shows at People's Light engage our students on many levels. Students leave the theatre talking, debating, and analyzing. Teachers often conduct mini-classes on the buses returning to school because the plays presented create such excitement that we don't want to miss these wonderful "teachable moments."
