Mary Elizabeth Scallen came to People's Light in 1991 after earning her MFA from Temple University. In addition to being an actor and Artistic Associate, she has served as a teaching artist, Arts Discovery project manager, dramaturg, Shakespeare text coach, and communications writer. She has performed in 60 productions at People's Light; favorites include Legacy of Light (Olivia), In The Blood (Amiga Gringa, Beauty), The Merchant of Venice (Portia), The Memory of Water (Mary), Quint & Miss Jessel at Bly (Miss Jessel), Hard Times (Louisa) and Getting Near to Baby (Aunt Patty). She has also worked with The Lantern, The Arden, Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival, The NC Shakespeare Festival, Gretna Theatre (PA), Weston Playhouse (VT), and Mill Mountain Theatre (VA). She teaches acting at The University of Pennsylvania and is on the faculty of FAIMER, an international medical education foundation headquartered in Philadelphia.
