Teen

For Teens (Grades 9-12)
• S.T.E.P., our Subscription Teen Engagement Program
• FALL (September - November) Classes
• WINTER (January - March) Classes
• SPRING (April - May) Classes
• SUMMERSTAGE (June - July)
Artists in this age group crave greater independence, and our teen classes give them the opportunity to take on more challenging material. Building on the skills developed on our Youth core classes, teens connect with members of the resident acting company to refine their acting skills. We also offer a teen subscription to our productions though our Subscription Teen Engagement Program. If you’re a teen artist looking for your tribe, check out our S.T.E.P. program.

NEW THIS SUMMER:
ASPIRING DESIGNERS
Summer Program
ACTORS AREN’T THE ONLY ARTISTS WHO DESERVE THE SPOTLIGHT...
We recognize that not every young person who enjoys theatre wants to be in front of an audience. This summer, we're piloting the Aspiring Designers Program for those individuals who are interested in the visual art, sound, costume, and lighting aspects of theatre-making.
This program will run parallel to our Teen Summerstage Program from June 18-July 13, Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm. Students will have the opportunity to learn the core aspects of scenic, lighting, costume, prop, and sound for the theatre, then put their knowledge and talents to work creating the design for the Teen Summerstage performance.
The first week will explore design fundamentals with professional artists by spending each day in a different design medium: set, lighting, costumes, props, and sound.
Students will discover:
• How each design element can help tell the story of the play
• What questions designers ask to prepare their design approach
• How designers gather research and inspiration for their work
• What technology and equipment are essential to each design area
• How designers pitch their ideas to directors and producers
In the second week, Aspiring Designers will collaborate with Teen Summerstage artists to develop the performance design concept, compose their design sketches and acquire necessary materials to create their vision on stage.
Professional artists will provide mentoring during the third and fourth week while the Aspiring Designers take their creativity from the sketch to the stage, culminating in a performance for family, friends, and the community.

FALL THEATRE SCHOOL
September 24 - November 12
We are not accepting registration for our Fall Theatre School at this time.
Teen Lab, Grades 9-12
Our Theatre School classes are directly linked to the shows in our season. In fall 2011, our Teen Lab explored story building, improvisation, writing, and monologue work inspired by our 2011 production of The Philly Fan.
The Teen Lab will continue developing original monologues written during our fall session into scene work through out the Winter and Spring sessions, with a culminating reading by teens in Spring 2012. The Teen Lab is a great way to explore acting and play building either as a participant in Fall, Winter, or Spring or all three through out the year.
We encourage all teens to also take part in STEP: The Subscription Teen Engagement Program, as attending People's Light productions through out the year will provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of professional theatre from the perspective of an audience member.
