Community Ambassador for Lights Out: Nat "King" Cole

This is a project-based, temporary staff position.
$3,000 stipend
Interviews will occur between August 14 – 25, 2017

People’s Light invites applications for a Community Ambassador to broaden the reach of the upcoming world premiere production, Lights Out: Nat “King” Cole by Colman Domingo & Patricia McGregor, to diverse new and expanded audiences.

The Ambassador will work closely with the Director of Community Investment to implement Consensus Organizing for Theatre (CO) strategies with a diversity of communities, including a range of African American communities, organizations and individuals to achieve audience engagement goals expressed within the theatre’s long range plan.

The Community Ambassador will be a key representative of the theatre – linking the creative work and artistic aspirations of the production to the interests and needs of community members as individuals and groups. The Community Ambassador will be immersed in the creative process of this production at strategic times throughout the play’s evolution.

The Community Ambassador will identify and work with specific segments of the community who would be most responsive to the production. The CA will directly engage with identified constituencies to connect and explore opportunities for involvement around the production, including, but not limited to play attendance.

The Community Ambassador will be responsible for:
• building awareness and enthusiasm for this production at a grass roots level.
• composing bi-weekly reports for senior staff on project progress and deliverables.
• soliciting and consolidating all project data and information (feedback, quotes, photos/videos, etc.) for promotion,
social media and reporting purposes.
• drafting content for blog posts and grant reporting purposes.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and listener, as well as highly organized, friendly, focused, tenacious, thorough, diplomatic, and patient. The person well-suited to this role will enjoy creative problem solving, thrive in social situations, and enjoy galvanizing others around a particular cause or event.

Qualifications include:
Project management experience
Experience as a cultural worker / activist / community organizer
Experience working with African American Communities in the Delaware Valley region
Proven track record of achieving deliverables on par with the goals and expectations of this position
Deadline-, results-, and detail-oriented
360-degree thinking, ability to connect the dots across agendas

Applicants must have personal automobile or reliable transportation to engage in meetings with a diversity of community organizations across Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties at times that may extend beyond a traditional workday.

Part-Time Box Office Representative

People’s Light is now accepting applications for part-time Box Office Representatives. The box office is open year-round, offers 15-25 hours per week and is great for those individuals seeking entry-level arts administration experience. Box Office Representatives serve as the primary point of contact for all patron inquiries regarding the theatre and affiliated restaurant (the Farmhouse Bistro) and are responsible for providing concierge service to all patrons.

Scheduling: Shifts are assigned on a monthly basis. Successful candidates must be willing to provide a minimum of 3 full days of availability per week. Some weekend and late-night shifts are required. Candidates must have a reliable form of transportation.

Reports directly to: Box Office Manager

• Ticket order processing via phone, mail, in person, or email.
• Recording of subscription orders from new and returning patrons.
• Resolution of ticketing inquires and patron concerns
• Maintenance of patron accounts.
• Various administrative tasks (maintaining incoming and outgoing mail, office supply management, etc.)

• Applicants should be computer literate.
• Comfortable with handling a high volume of telephone calls.
• Have the ability to multi-task.
• Enjoy working with the public.
• Customer service and Tessitura ticketing software experience is a plus.
