EXECUTIVE STAFF POSITION: Director of External Affairs

Organization History:
People's Light & Theatre, one of Pennsylvania's largest professional non-profit theatres, is known for its resident company of artists, eclectic mix of productions, and for innovative work with young people (Arts Discovery). Producing 7 - 9 plays per season, mixing world premieres, contemporary plays, and fresh approaches to classic texts, the Theatre also commissions and produces new work. Of its 397 productions, over a third (158) was world or regional premieres. People's Light has always made its home in Chester County and has been in its current location since 1979. The seven-acre property includes two black box theatres with 340 and 160 seats; offices; scenic shops; rehearsal halls; classrooms; a restored 18th century farmhouse which provides housing for guest artists, banquet facilities that can be rented for special events, and a full service restaurant, The Farmhouse Bistro. People's Light employs 75 full and permanent part-time artists and staff members and almost 200 guest artists. Its annual budget is $5.3 million and the total community served each year is 85,000. People's Light operates under a League of Resident Theatres contract with Actors' Equity and holds memberships in LORT, Theatre Communications Group, and The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance

Position Summary:
People's Light & Theatre seeks an experienced and entrepreneurial Director of External Affairs to be part of a new collaborative leadership structure for the organization. This position will report to the Artistic Director/CEO (Abigail Adams) and join the Executive Producer (Zak Berkman) and Director of Internal Affairs/CFO (Ellen Anderson) as the leadership team responsible for the company's long-term vision and planning, the quality and relevance of its artistic and education programming, the sustainability and diversity of its resources (earned and contributed), the disciplined management and accounting of its finances, and the care for its personnel and facilities.

The Director of External Affairs will be a dynamic, strategic, and creative leader whose primary focus will be to identify and attract the resources needed to achieve the organization's short term and long term financial and artistic goals. To better obtain these resources, this position will lead activities designed to elevate the organization's cultural and civic profile locally and nationally, as well as be a public representative for People's Light in our five-county region. In partnership with the Director of Internal Affairs, this position will be responsible for fiscal oversight across the organization. The Director of Development and Director of Marketing will report to the Director of External Affairs to unify the activities of these departments and enhance organizational communication with our constituents. Although not a member of the Board of Trustees, this position will work closely with Trustees and manage Trustee activity.

Experience and Attributes:
Qualified candidates possess significant experience with theater management and a demonstrated track record of success in fundraising and profile-building at a senior level. Candidates are eager to embrace our distinctive region and be part of our broader community. They are passionate, knowledgeable, and rigorous about their work. They are articulate, persuasive, diplomatic, and collaborative. They have a social ease, are comfortable in a variety of settings, able to thrive in a fast paced and creative environment, and interact well with management, board members, donors, artists, staff, friends, and the general public. Qualified candidates should have a Master's degree or equivalent experience.

Start Date: September 1, 2013

Ticketing Service Representative

Applicants should be computer literate, comfortable with a high volume of telephone calls, have the ability to multi-task, and enjoy working with the public. House Management Staff

The People’s Light & Theatre Company in Malvern, PA seeks part-time house management staff for our 2012/2013 Season. Primarily evening, and weekend hours available, along with occasional daytime hours. Applicants should be comfortable with face to face patron interaction, monetary sales/transactions, and selling basic concessions. Customer service and retail experience is a plus. Marketing and Events Internship

Join the People’s Light staff for a flexible hours internship opportunity that will provide experience in event management, marketing and public relations. Duties will include attending and assisting with opening night and other theatre-related events, representing the Theatre at local community events, brochure and poster distribution, assisting with social media marketing, assisting with mailings, and more. Positions are available immediately. Work with the Theatre’s Directors of Marketing, Development, and Corporate Relations and Special Events and gain excellent general arts administration experience. Past interns have gone on to successful careers at People’s Light, other theatre and performing arts companies, and into other related careers.
