Project Overview

People’s Light has invited twenty-four artists to participate in the development of a series of new theatre works that will be performed in partnership with Longwood Gardens, one of the great horticultural centers of the world. Over a three-year time span we plan to develop as many as 6 site-specific theatre pieces, using art and science as they intersect with themes of sustainability, conservation, and botanical research as points of departure and as material. In October 2010, twelve playwright/designer teams spent three days at a retreat weekend exploring Longwood Gardens, interviewing the staff members who keep the gardens running, and brainstorming with their partners. Every corner of Longwood Gardens was explored, each area a new and creative opportunity for a performance space.

Project Update

The artists submitted their proposals by February 18, 2011 and six projects were then selected for development. Take a look at the interesting ideas they came up with!
